ALBUM:NIGHTFALL IN MIDDLE-EARTH
ARTIST:BLIND GUARDIAN
YEAR OF RELEASE:1998
RATING:*****

Out of every album I own, this one is probably my favorite. IMO, it captures everything I like about metal in one killer album. The album is a concept album based on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion, telling the story of the fabulous Silmarils, the dark lord Morgoth, and the rise and fall of the Elves. It contains a wide range of speed, from the ballad styles of "Nightfall" and "Blood Tears" to the exceptionally fast "Mirror Mirror" and "When Sorrow Sang". The emotional vocals of Hansi Kursch, the guitar wizardry of Marcus Siepen and Andre Olbrich, and the amazing drumming of Thomen Staunch combine perfectly on this album, making for a killer listening experience. In addition, it contains many choir style choruses, lots of classical/folk instruments, orchestration, spoken bits and an epic feel, all of which combine to make one of the very few albums that I consider perfect. If you're interested in hearing Blind Guardian, or power metal in general, this is *the* album to get. Highlights include, but certainly aren't limited to, "Nightfall", "Mirror Mirror", and "Time Stands Still".
