ALBUM:KING OF THE NORDIC TWILIGHT
ARTIST:LUCA TURILLI
YEAR OF RELEASE:1999
RATING:***

Luca Turilli, guitarist and song writer for Rhapsody, for reasons unknown has decided to put out solo albums in addition to his work with Rhapsody. Though his reasons are unclear, the fact remains that there is now a second band doing the exact(seriously-take out the vocals, and I would have no way of telling the 2 bands apart) same symphonic metal style as Rhapsody. Though the vocals are slightly different(though still the higher pitched style I disdain), Kings of the Nordic Twilight sounds like pure Rhapsody from start to finish. Speedy metal riffs and harmony guitars, neo-classical solos, big choruses, orchestration and classical segments, and an epic, but goofy(ala Rhapsody) fantasy based story are all characteristics of this album, and combine to allow this one to stand proudly alongside Rhapsody. If you like Rhapsody style bombastic symphonic classically influenced "Hollywood"(their term, not mine) metal, you will like this. Personal faves are the title track and "The Ancient Forest of Elves".
