In the dark woods I discovered a stone
Flat like a table and stained a dark brown
Uneasy being there, lost and alone
I soon saw odd creatures gather around.
A strange combination of man and beast,
They chanted a name and began to dance
Witness to this Shub-Niggurian feast
I feared to remain but seemed in a trance.
A black cloud of tendrils, hoofs and sharp teeth
Hovered above the unholy, old stone.
Patiently waiting like a sword in sheath
To sup on the body now lying prone.
Reeling in terror 'twas I on that rock
Seeing myself through strange eyes of a god.
Sanity fled, my mind numb from the shock,
Of walking down pathways best left untrod.
