ALBUM:PILE OF SKULLS
ARTIST:RUNNING WILD
YEAR OF RELEASE:1992
RATING:*****
This was the first Running Wild album I ever heard, and to this day it remains my favorite. Running Wild stick with their pirate theme for the album, but really up the tempo from previous releases. The result is a slab of fast paced killer German power metal from several years before power metal was a big thing. 11 killer tracks, including the 11+ minute epic, "Treasure Island". My release is the 1999 Noise records rerelease, which includes 4 bonus tracks("Beggar's Night", "Hanged, Drawn, and Quartered", "Win or Be Drowned", and "Uaschitschun '92"), for a grand total of 77 minutes of great music. If you're just getting into Running Wild, this is the album to get. Highlights include the title track, "Lead or Gold", "Jenning's Revenge", and the aforementioned "Treasure Island".
