One of my favorite Iced Earth albums, and also the first I ever heard. The album is great, and the diversity of styles make it an excellent intro for someone wanting to sample the Iced Earth sound. It has ballads("Melancholy", for example), a thrasher("Disciples of the Lie"), melodic and heavy songs, and the epic and powerful Something Wicked trilogy, widely regarded to be some of their best material. In addition to the killer music, this disc shows just why Matt Barlow is one of my favorite singers in metal. A good strong standard singing voice, high pitched parts, rougher parts, he really shows a wide range here. Great for fans of metal in general, and a great starting point for those that may be interested in it. Highlights include "The Something Wicked Trilogy(Prophecy/Birth of the Wicked/The Coming Curse)" and "Stand Alone".
