So...What's The Point?

Some of our plans for the Bod Squad.

We've had several requests to either put more stories on the site (still working on it; it seems each day has fewer hours of free time than the last!), or at least put up some plots. I'd (this is Scott writing this) like to take a little space here to at least fill you in on what we're trying to accomplish with the Bod Squad in general, and with this web site in particular.

The initial concept for the Squad was born out of my frustration at a lifetime of not fitting in. It was only natural, I suppose, that I would create a group of characters who were, themselves, social pariahs. I wasn't totally sure of what I wanted, but I sketched out some very rough descriptions of five characters and the basic concept, and passed it along to Mark. After a little bit of creative ping- ponging between us, we had a team of super-heroines, and a direction to take our story.

Cassiewas concieved as an aspiring comic book artist, who was creating a comic featuring beautiful, super-powered versions of herself and her closest friends as the stars of the series. The friends gave her some input, and another kid, Myron Baines, was assisting in the writing. Myron's alter ego in the book was Pylon, a villain.

Cassie and her friends visited a lab run by her Uncle Frank, where experiments into the nature of reality itself were being conducted. Cassie and the others were given the opportunity to try the machine, which they naturally used to experience what it would be like to be the comic book characters. A bomb that had been placed in the lab by a saboteur exploded, causing reality to be rewritten according to the plans the kids had for their comic.

The kids were transformed into their characters permanently, and other people around the world began gaining strange powers and turning to lives of crime. The worst thing is, Cassie knows that they had had numerous disasters and alien invasions and the like plotted for their book, and this stuff is going to come to pass. Of course, nobody believes her, except for her friends, and since Myron is now a villain, he's not telling what other ideas he had for the series that he didn't tell the others.

They gained the name of their team while unintentional guests on a television talk show; see the short story What's in a Name?. Cassie isn't real thrilled with the name, but it has stuck.

I am (slowly...) getting the origin written up in prose form. When it's done, it will be put on the site. We are working on a Bod Squad comic which is slated to be printed at the end of 1998. More than that, I won't say, since this site can only be used for personal use, and we plan to sell the comic. Unlike the stories on this site, the comic book is definitely of an Adult nature! Be forewarned.

I am planning to update and enhance the information on the characters' individual pages, to be a little more comprehensive. If you have any questions about anything pertaining to the Squad, please email us. We love to hear from people.
