The book mentioned in this section -- "Bones of Berdichev" by Garrard and Garrard -- is real, and a great biography of Russian writer Vasily Grossman.  (It is currently out of print, even though it's just a couple of years old -- Barnes and Noble can direct you to where you can find it secondhand.
