The Wheel of the Year
and the Pagaent

"Ill met by moonlight, proud Titania."
Oberon, A Midsummer's Night Dream

The Unseelie beliefs are reflected in their seasonal festivals and celebrations. This is known as the Wheel of the Year. It starts in the dark, Winter season and continues through the year to again return to Winter. Thus this represents the spiritual journey of every fae, from the dark of ignorance to the light of spiritual enlightenment. And so, the Pageant begins again, at...

Samhain

Falling on the same date as the mortal's Halloween, Samhain marks the beginning and end of the Unseelie year. It also marks what at one time was the beginning of the Unseelie reign over the Fae, a tradition eradicated in recent times by the Seelie. On this nigh, the veil between the worlds thins, and allows Soothsayers a glimpse into what lays beyond. On this night many pacts are signed with wraiths to be carried out over the next year. Samhain is the embodiment of change within the Faerie courts, but unfortunately the Seelie no longer realize this and they have grown stagnant.

Yule

This is also known as Winter Solstace, the darkest day of the year. It symbolizes the Unseelie way of life, acknowlegding the darkness, and storing Glamour for the impending Endless Winter. Gifts are enxhanged within the Unseelie court at this time, imbued with Glamour that is to out last the death of creativity on the upsoming dark times.

Midwinter

This is a holiday only celebrated among the Unseelie court. It falls on January 13, in the bleakest part of winter. Unseelie held it as a time to light fires to entice the feeble winter sun to return to the Summer with all it's glory, and often Balefires are passed among the Kithain this night.

Imbolc

This festival on Feburury 2nd symbolizes the return of Spring to the land. To the Unseelie, it is a fesitval of the changes that occur during Spring as well as the creative spirit. It shows how new growth can only come from destruction of the old, a tenant that the Unseelie hold dear.
