"Night"
"Night" was a very entertaining episode, but I did not enjoy some of the character development. "Night" began with Voyager traveling through a great void in space, and it would continue for two years before reaching the nearest star. The crew developed severe cabing fever, especially Captain Janeway. Soon the ship encountered some dangerous alien that evolved in the void and a destructive race of toxic waste dumpers. Voyager sides with the void aliens and stops the waste dumpers. I felt that Captain Janeway was not acting consitantly with her character. She was very radical, and I don't think that she would be quite that eager to strand herself in the Delta Quadrant alone. The special effects were great, and I especially enjoyed the black and white/color transissions on the holodeck. Over all I give "Night" a 7 out of 10.
"In the Flesh"
Well this week's Voyager was one of the strangest I've seen in a long time. Species 8472 has returned, but this time they have created holographic replicas of starfleet headquarters. The crew investigates, and Chacotey goes on a date with one to find out more. He is captured, but 8472 seems to be far more reasonable than what we've previously seen. They are able to reach an agreement of sorts with Voyager and stop their planned infiltration of Earth. Species 8472 was nothing like what we saw last year. They were very cooperative, compared to the "Your galaxy will be purged" species we saw last year. The Commander seemed to actually like Archer (an 8472 human imposter), even though she was really an eight foot tall creature from another galaxy. Over all I give "In the Flesh" a 7 out of 10.
"Timeless"
Wow, "Timeless" is by far the most spectacular episode I've seen this
season. I will probably remember this episode as one of Voyager's all
time best.
The acting this week was superb. Harry, in particular, was very well
done. I never thought that he was much of an actor before this.
Chakotay, the Doctor, and Janeway were equally good this week. The
entire engineering scene was very entertaining. Seven getting drunk, the
conversation about the Starfleet's reaction, and Tuvok/Neelix scenes
were all very funny.
"Timeless" had one of the most impressive special effects sequences in
Voyager history. The crash landing on the glacier was incredible. The
episode's musical score was equally good (although it seemed rather
similar to "Generations").
Overall I give "Timeless" a 10 out of 10, and it defiantly goes on my
all time favorite list.
"Infinite Regress"
"Infinite Regress" continues the string of fine Voyagers this season.
Jeri Ryan did a wonderful job this week, and was quite humorous as well.
While this week's episode returned to the "Seven of Nine Show", it was
one of the best Seven episodes we've seen. I particularly enjoyed the
scene when Seven was displaying a Ferengi's personality. Other than Jeri
Ryan, there were not any spectacular performances. Namoi was good this
week, as well, but not wonderful.
Not much in way of special effects or music this week. The mind meld
scene had one the greatest varieties of species we've seen, but nothing
spectacular.
Overall I give "Infinite Regress" an 8 out of 10.
"Nothing Human"
"Nothing Human" was much better than I had expected. Robert Picardo did
a wonderful job this week, as did Roxann Dawson.
This week's episode dealt with the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, and
the Maquis hatred of Cardassians. When Torres was attacked by an alien
creature, the Doctor was forced to get the assistance of a Cardassian
program. This program, Krell Moset, was an expert in his field, but was
distrusted by the crew. I felt that the prejudices were basically
unfounded (he was just a hologram) until his usage of the scalpel. From
that point on, Moset became rather evil .
The special effects were nice this week, nothing spectacular, but nice
none the less. I did feel that creating Moset's program was far too
easy, however.
Overall I give "Nothing Human" an 8 out of 10.
"Thirty Days"
"Thirty Days" turned out to be somewhat disappointing to me. I had hoped
for a more suspenseful episode, instead of a story related after the
incident.
This week's episode led Tom to assisting an alien break the Prime
Directive. Although Tom's actions were generally well intended, they led
him to a demotion and time in the brig. The story is told from Tom's
perspective from the brig during his thirty day sentence. It began with
the discovery of a water planet, held together by an ancient energy
field. The current inhabitant's oxygen mining was destroying the
machine's ability to maintain the field. Paris took the Delta Flyer to
destroy the refineries in an attempt to save the planet.
The special effects were good this week, as was the music. Acting in "30
Days" was above average, but not wonderful. I particularly enjoyed this
week's Captain Proton scenario.
Overall I give "30 Days" a 7 out of 10.
"Counterpoint"
"Counterpoint" was quite a pleasant surprise. It greatly exceeded my
expectations.
In this week's episode, Voyager transports a group of telepathic alien
refugees through hostile space. In the process Captain Janeway falls in
love with a defecting Devor inspector. Unfortunately, he betrays
Janeway, but Voyager was fully prepared for them.
"Counterpoint" had spectacular special effects, and excellent music.
Acting this week was fairly good, but not wonderful. Overall I give this
week's episode a 9 out of 10.
