Welcome To My Zenna Henderson Page

You are visitor number: since Oct. 11,2000.

The following is some information and links on one of my favorite authors, Zenna Henderson!

Zenna Henderson (1917-1983), was never a wildly famous writer, and has had her share of literary critics. However, to many (like me!) who have read her stories, they have become treasured favorites, to be revisited time and time again.

To my knowledge she wrote only short stories, though her most famous ones (about 'The People') have been collected into several books. Her work has at times been characterized as for children, but it is as an adult that I, and many others have best appreciated her work.

Her most well know creations, 'The People', were a group of human like aliens who fled from a dying planet to earth. They landed, apparently in Arizona during the 1890's. They have various extrasensory abilities, and have sought to peacefully 'fit in' on earth, in spite of much persecution.

In all of these 'People' stories, there is generally at least an allusion to the Bible or faith in God which is generally included without 'sermons' or pretentions of any kind, but as an integral part of the characters lives. If you like this, or just fiction with well-developed, likeable characters, you may well enjoy her stories as much as I and many others have.

Books in the 'People Series are as follows:

Pilgrimage: The Book of The People (1961)
The People: No Different Flesh (1966)
Ingathering: the Complete People Stories (has all stories in the above two, and more)

Other Books are: The Anything Box (1965)
Holding Wonder (1971)
