Maggie Egan

Babylon 5's ISN Anchor, and a Sci-Fi Swing Musician

This is the album cover.

Some of you may have heard about Maggie Egan, the ISN anchor for "Babylon 5" and "Crusade." Well, she's put out an album called "Out of This World," which she qualifies as "sci-fi swing."

While most people talking about her on rec.music.filk (the main newsgroup for filkers) were thinking "yeah, yeah, yeah, she just wants to (fill in the blank)," I figured, "Why don't I talk to her, explain how the filk community works, and see what she says?" Turns out that while she wanted to barge in (like I did back in 1984), she was more than willing to listen, and we talked on several occasions. I asked her to send me an evaluation copy. She did. I sat and listened to it. I was impressed. Here was someone who knows how to sing, how to intro a song, etc. The presentation of the album is done well. Heck, she even dressed in 40's gear and sat on what looks like an old Flash Gordon-esque rocket for the CD cover!

Yes, she's really eager to insinuate herself into the filk community. I can understand why. To quote the Klingons, "She does it well."

Here's the play list. Between each song, she does an ISN anchor-style report to intro each piece, save #19:

2. Orange Colored Sky
4. Moonlight Saving Time
6. Moonglow
8. I've Got the World on a String
10. Out of This World
12. I Wished on the Moon
14. Blue Moon
16. It Was Written in the Stars
18. What a Wonderful World
19. Maggie's Crusade
