e all make predictions at one time or another. Wether we bet on the superbowl or forecast the companies annual growth. We all use various methods of foretelling the future. However it is not a prophecy. A prophecy involves divine influence. So technically this not a prophecy page, however, it does have some of the most interesting predictions for the coming millennium. Some are encouraging, others not. Perhaps the mystery here is not what will happen in the future but why continually try to foretell it.
* High-tech companies will lure workers by offering subsidized apartments, houses and condos that are wired to the workplace. * The U.S. economy will post annual growth of 2.5 percent over the next decade. * Tamper-proof paper will thwart forgers by revealing chemical erasures or pressure of any kind cause by pens or printers. *Longer life spans and the aging of Baby Boomers will combine to produce a growing percentage of older workers in the 21st century. *"breathing walls"-- ecosystems growing on walls indoors may be cure for sick-building syndrome * Tiny flying robots will be used to gather data in inaccessible, dangerous places such as battlefields. * There will be another torrid decade of growth in computing capacity and " Internet adoption"--"with far-reaching consequences for consumers, vendors, and other buisnesses." * More cities will use trees and green cover to cast shade on buildings, helping lower energy costs and improve air quality. * More seafood will be produced without the sea via aquaculture * Infectious disease could become even more devastating in the future as human populations grow more dense in "megacities" where diseases spread more rapidly * Home products like videocassette recorders, televisions, and coffee makers will be voice-activated and programmed to understand a variety of languages, but traditional VCRs, CD players, and DVD players won't be around for long. Movies and *music will be available on computer chips that are programmable so that consumers can place themselves within a favorite movie or sing along with a favorite group. * Retail stores and wholesalers may disappear as more people flock to the web for more convenient electronic-shopping * Wearable computers for senior citizens will be developed with face-recognition systems to help identify aquaintances * The United States will run out of oil between 2030 and 2050, radically altering the "car culture" * Popular alternatives to retirement will include starting a new business, becoming a teacher, or retiring to a farm * More companies will recognize the dominance of dual-income families by offering on-site child care, flexible working hours, and other family-friendly policies and benefits.
