The Year of the Dragon
Dragon Years and their Elements
Dragon is linked to the ancient Chinese element of wood. Wood is an ambivalent element. As a crutch it lends support; as a spear it can be used as a weapon. Consequently, dragons are full of both positive and negative energies that will surface in, for example, strong emotions. For instance, emotionally, wood is associated with both anger and kindness. Wood is also responsible for growth and renewal, so dragons tend to be creative people.

Wood, a symbol of growth and renewal, allows dragon to be a creative, innovative person fond of improvisation. they love harmony, elegance, and all beautiful things. Relaxed and at ease socially, these dragons do not like to offend people. Wood can bring pessimism to a character, but dragons temper this tendency with their dynamism. They are progressive people, and, untypically, curious of affairs not centered around them. Dramatic and generous, wood dragons are fun and considerate people.

Wood - Earth
1928, 1988
Like all dragons, earth dragons like to dedicate themselves to a cause or project. Earth allows dragons to be more cooperative and open to team work than typical dragons, who are just as likely to embark on a solitary quest. Stability and security are important to these dragons, who will probably equate them with financial independence.

Wood - Metal
1940, 2000
Metal strengthens many of dragon's qualities. Metal dragons are very theartical and have enormous egos. Already resolute, they are argumentative to the point of aggression, but always honest. If a metal dragon believes in a cause, he or she will single-mindedly champion it against all odds. Bordering on the heroic, these dragons have the natures of gladiators. Visionary but still practical, efficient and hardworking, metal dragons are often successful.

Wood - Water
1952, 2012
Normally, water would make a character calm and reflective. On dragons, however, the opposite can be true unless the dragon learns to balance the water tendency with his innate dragon excessiveness. Nevertheless, water dragons are more diplomcatic than average dragons and very creative. They are pacifists and interested in social problems. This, combined with their intuitive wisdom, makes water dragons idealistic and compassionate.
