The Year of the Ox

Ox Years and their Elements

Ox is linked to the ancient Chinese element of water. Water is linked to the arts and expressiveness. In oxen, however, water is more likely to be stgnant and passively, rather than actively, expressed. Bear in mind, water can be both as nurturing as rain or as destrucitve as a hurricane.

Water ox is in his natural element. Water brings sensitivity to this ox who is more likely to listen and help others. Atypically, this ox is almost diplomatic. Water helps oxen focus and channel their energies, and water oxen find it easier to express their emotions. Therefore, they are less prone to neuroses. Although double water slows the ox down, it also allows them to be more flexible. Despite being very patient, they are intolerant of weakness or self pity in others.

Metal strengthens some of the ox's qualities, so metal oxen are even more stubborn and hardworking. They are also incredibly self-sufficient and resourceful. Conversely, metal also makes the ox less objective and more intuitive, while the ox's own strong character makes them the warmest of all metal people. Metal oxen are artistic and eloquent, and they have both logic and vision. This produces charismatic people who inspire others with their inevitable achievements. These oxen can be domineering, however, and are prone to taking themselves too seriously.

The ox's natural water element allows the wood to flower. Wood oxen have physial strength combined with natural energy. They are the most innovative, creative, and eloquent of all oxen. These oxen have a better developed sense of humor and, at times, are even witty. Good learners, oxen born in a wood year are exceptional as they are not afraid to try new things. Wood makes this ox more sociable but due to its flammable nature also more quick-tempered.

Five conflicts with water to produce an impatient ox who lacks the typical ox's placid approach to life. Fire oxen are combative and forceful characters. Although they often offend people, fire oxen do try not to cause unnecessary conflict. All oxen consider themselves superior to others, but they usually conceal this with modesty. Fire oxen, however, lack the ox's normal self-effacing manner and can appear proud and arrogant. In fact, they are basically kind and honest but lack the skills of tact and diplomacy.

The element earth is associated with many of the ox's innate qualities: reliability, resourcefulness, practicality, steadfastness, and patience, for example. So these people are stereotypical oxen. Earth oxen are hugely materialistic but will always earn thier wealth. They have a high sense of justice and are generous to those who need help. Earth allows the ox to be relatively at ease in expressing love physically. Earth oxen are the least creative of all oxen, and they never take risks or shortcuts. These people are very homely and pleasant but perhaps a little dull.
