The Year of the Rooster
Rooster Years and their Elements
Rooster is linked to the ancient Chinese element of metal. This is a very strong element. It can be seen positively as a valuable resource, such as gold, or negatively as a weapon, such as a sword. For example, the energy of metal expresses itself supportively and inspirationally as well as destructively and inflexibly. Metal people are also intuitive and ambitious.
Metal - Metal
1921, 1981
Double metal roosters are trouble. They are the most headstrong of all the roosters. Well organized and precise, metal roosters are great sticklers for detail. They have high expectations of themselves and others. These roosters can be harshly critical of those who fail to live up to their standards. The vitality of roosters can be constrained by the rigidity of doulbe metal. Roosters are not naturally restrained, so metal roosters can, at times, feel confused and ill-at-ease with themselves. On such occasions, they need to seek out solitude to regain their harmony.

Metal - Earth
1909, 1969
Steadfast earth and ambitious metal combine to make very resourceful and determined people. These people do not shy away from taking on responsibilities and can quickly get to the root of a problem. EArth, however, lessens the rooster's immediate, dramatic appeal. Onn closer inspection though, the rooster's penchant for finery reveals itself in small touches - discreet but bizarre jewelry, for instance. Earth roosters are not as talkative as other roosters. This does not mean that they are less outspoken, just not as verbose. The few words they do say are guaranteed to be typically blunt.

Metal - Water
1933, 1993
Transparent water combines with clear-thinking metal to add clarity to the already considerable intellectual capabilities of the rooster. Water roosters are capable and adaptable people, proficient in may fields. Less authoritarian than others, they gain support by persuasion rather than by intimidation. Water also helps the rooster's innate sensitivity to surface. Roosters born in water years, therefore, are more sympathetic and easier to relate to than other roosters. The metal in their characters, however, stops them being overwhelmed by these sympathies and helps them to focus on worthwhile causes.

Metal - Wood
1945, 2005
Wood roosters are enthusiastic and progressive people. Wood releases the rooster's dormant creativity and, with their fine imaginations, wood roosters can do well in arts such as poetry and painting. Wood is also, however, an element that is prone to excesses. Rossters are already aggressive and susceptible, and wood can serve to make these qualities more pronounced. On the positive side, both wood and metal are associated with integrity. Wood tempers the moral rigidity of metal with kindness. Roosters born in wood years are completely trustworthy and are even capable of discretion.

Metal - Fire
1957, 2017
Fire and metal combine to make strong, dramatic characters. Although eccentric, fire roosters are always convincing people. Rash, audacious, and argumentative, they are never inconspicuous. These roosters are high fliers. Fire roosters are often exceptional: people of action, leaders, heroes, or pioneers. Usually with great success, they singly-mindedly pursue their goals. Fire enables the rooster to look ahead to the long-term future and not get lost in details on the way. Fire also strengthens the belligerent nature of roosters.
