That, along with "The truth is out there," is our motto at the College of X-Files Foreign Studies, Chinese. In this college, our primary goal is to encourage students who are familiar with the Chinese language or interested in the Chinese culture to apply their knowledge to The X-Files in a creative manner. On this page you will find information about the college and instructions on how to obtain a degree. Bulletin December 14th, 1998 The college is looking for people who are fluent in the Chinese language but also familiar with English to help out with reading thesis submissions and lectures. Expertise on Chinese culture preferred. We are also looking for Chinese X-Philes familiar with the Chinese X-Philes' language and territory and the Chinese Internet. Contact the dean if interested. Personal Website Bulletin | Degree Guidelines | Students | Resources Degree Guidelines To obtain a master's degree, all you have to do is submit a thesis paper no shorter than 5 pages, double-spaced. To obtain a graduate degree, your thesis paper must be no shorter than 15 pages, double-spaced. To obtain a doctorate, your thesis paper must be no shorter than 30 pages, double-spaced. Of course, the scope and depth of your research and analysis must vary accordingly, also. Grading criteria: Your thesis paper will be evaluated on the following -- grammar, spelling, organization, depth, clarity, content, and support. Write your thesis as you would a real one; cite sources and references. Your thesis paper may be written in English or Chinese. If you are submitting your thesis paper in English, however, then your topic cannot deal with general X-Files studies. Remember, this is the College of Foreign Studies. Topics: You may refer to the College of Foreign Studies site for guidelines, but your topic is certainly not limited to those suggested by the guidelines. The actual requirements are simple: your thesis must deal with The X-Files and some related aspect of the Chinese culture and/or the Chinese language. Here are a few examples of topics you might write on: general X-Files topics (you may write on these only if you are submitting your thesis in Chinese. See above); the translation/voiceovers of the show as seen in your country; cultural influences the show has had in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, or other Chinese communities; parts of the show that pertain to Chinese culture, philosophy, history, literature, politics, science, etc. (Hell Money is a prime example); Chinese actors that have appeared on the show; Chinese staff/crew on the show (for example, James Wong); a comparison between the show and a Chinese television/radio program, movie, or work of literature; supernatural phenomena in your country; you may also submit a fanfic in Chinese or translate an existing work (make sure you obtain permission from the author!). Remember, creativity is the key. The X-Files has a broad scope, and the history of the Chinese people go back five thousand years. You have unlimited topics to choose from. These guidelines are extremely flexible! Make sure you double check with the dean so that we know you understand everything; also, let us pre-approve your topic before you begin.
