Tune: "Rolling down to Old Maui" (trad.) via "Falling Down on New Jersey" (Mitchell Burnside-Clapp)
My entry in the "Burning Bridges" song contest.
It's a damned good life full of song and strife that filkers
must undergo.
To get to our lair, well we just don't care how far our cars
must go.
Some this day come from Tampa Bay or the Isle of Liberty.
And let's come clean for we share a dream of filking down in New Jersey
Chorus:
Filking down in New Jersey, me boys, filking down in New Jersey.
And we thought it wise to apologize to the folks in New Jersey.
It's a floating con that they still put on though it's
kicked out every year.
And the con sets sail, like the Argo tale, as if each
hotel had real fears.
Today we're here but who knows? next year we might be down
in D.C.
But this weekend, this group of friends filks down in
New Jersey.
(Chorus)
Lissa Alcock had a larder stocked full of Oreo cookies to
share.
She said, "Tell me which country makes each of these
dishes in my Oreo dare."
I'm proud to say that yesterday I won my Oreo game.
I have saved some face and can take my place in the Oreo
Hall of Fame.
(Chorus)
'Twas a damn cold room in the middle of June at the East
Coast filking con.
Some had layers and others just prayers to listen to our
favorite songs.
Someone stole in the middle of the cold dark night to
the Burlington bridge.
We burned those timbers and were no longer hindered
by the feeling of singing in a fridge.
(Chorus)
I didn't need to sing the following, fortunately.
We were sad to learn that one car burned and seven ran out
of gas.
But have no fear, we'll be staying here while we write some
new songs fast.
Some about the food and the service, too, singing them loud
and clear.
Maybe helping along, with just a song, to end a fine career.
(Chorus)
