A Query to Bill Clinton about the Nonexistence of Species Requirements for the Presidency

Tune: "Backbone" (Jane Robinson)

When I voted in ninety-two,
I had a good idea what you would do.
You really haven't disappointed me yet,
though I wish you would go out and get a . . .

Backbone, backbone, backbone, backbone,
Backbone, backbone, backbone, backbone.

You stand by your nominees when doing just fine,
but controversy gets your folks the thumbs-down sign.
When she mentioned using the hand,
that's when Jocelyn Elders got canned for having backbone, etc.

With guilt about gays you've been plagued
'cause with pressure from the army, you reneged.
Your ethical standards suddenly fell,
and if we don't ask, you won't tell if you have backbone, etc.

You may have fought for a better budget
'cause you think that you can fudge it.
Your notochord really isn't a spine.
Is your thinking today the same as Dole's or mine? You need a backbone, etc.

(Coda:)
To be a leader,
Bill, you really need a
Backbone!
