Angel: Dad

Angel has to look after his child, but unfortunately several groups of people are after the baby, to uncover its secrets or merely to cut it open and find out how it can exist. Can Angel protect the child?

Continuing straight on from the previous episode that saw the birth of Angel's child and Darla's death, here we have more of the same really. There's a stack of people after the kid and Angel must find a way to protect it, ideally through killing as many enemies as possible. Now, while this is great fun as far as it goes, particularly in the way Angel sees off the vampire cult, there's still no real closure to the storyline and it's starting to annoy. While I appreciate that you need to keep some ongoing villains, Wolfram & Hart are quickly becoming stale after some great use of them last season and Holtz really isn't showing much potential at the moment. Yes, he looks cool wandering the city, yes he can maim and kill like nobody's business, but when's he ever going to do something? I'm sure we're all getting as frustrated as his demon colleague with his lack of desire to do much.

I'm still dubious about a baby being introduced into the show, especially when so much time is wasted here with the traditional baby gags: nappies, crying, being peed on in a comedic way, that kind of thing. Okay, so we do get the worrying concept of the only thing that stops the kid wailing being Angel's vampire face, but it's a baby and it's only going to get in the way of exciting plots. By the end, Angel is convinced that the immediate trouble is over, but I really can't see it happening, and, like the Charmed endless reliance on bounty hunter demons after Cole, I don't want this show to just become monster after monster coming at Angel and crew. His 'pact' with Wolfram & Hart at the end to keep the child protected is a neat little twist, but this plotline is being dragged out longer than is really necessary now. We could have reached this point in a couple of episodes.
