Earth: Final Conflict: The Summit

Da'an sets off to Fedorov's space station leaving Liam behind in order to join a summit between him and a Jaridian. Meanwhile, Liam's investigation is hampered by the implantation of a surveillance CVI.

Plenty going on here at last, with Da'an attempting to make up for his past by forging a literal alliance with a Jaridian as he attempts to recombine and forge a renewed link between their two races, hoping to avert a war and save the lives of both species. Federov is a welcome return, although he doesn't play that big a role in proceedings and Da'an's return to the forces of good continues to be welcome.

It's interesting to see how vulnerable Liam becomes once the Taelon leaves, being tracked by Sandoval everywhere he goes thanks to a surveillance CVI. My biggest problem with the episode, though is the incredibly overcomplicated lengths Renee and Street go to to allow Liam his freedom once again: duplicating him. Now surely there are better ways round a CVI, including calling on Dr Belman to do some work. I appreciate that maybe Majel Barrett wasn't available, but duplicating Liam seems a ridiculous solution, only being used so that he can sacrifice himself at the end of the story to save the others after kissing Renee. This scene with the duplicate is nicely played as Liam gets a chance to really make a difference and show his feelings, though. Overall it's an interesting insight into Da'an and his desperate wish to avoid bloodshed, but the ridiculousness brings it down.
