Earth: Final Conflict: Blood Ties

An assassin goes after people who have received a Taelon core energy infusion while Zo'or finds Da'an unwilling to back his dubious enterprises any more.

After the last couple of episodes, this one is a real letdown. There's not much reason for an Amoralist to kill for core energy unless it's merely for the money, and Sandoval's involvement is hardly a surprise by now. The twist that Tate is skimming money from Sandoval would be a good one were it not for the fact that Sandoval gets wind of it so easily, and Tate has yet another near-death experience after many already this season. He's served his purpose now and can probably be disposed of.

Meanwhile, Liam seems to have acquired an old friend, a bit odd considering he's still only two and three quarter years old, and the friend has a dreadful Scottish accent. When he is attacked, it's firstly strange that Liam takes so long to portal in and rescue him and secondly that the protector decides to give Tate core energy to save him rather than his friend. Tate may have information, but he doesn't provide much of worth and he betrays Liam and Renee in an instant. Which brings me to another problem: They admit to being aware that he will double cross them, yet seem to walk right into Tate's trap.

Then there's the Taelons. Despite Zo'or's continuing poor decisions the Synod are happy to keep him in power because he hasn't apparently killed another Taelon, whereas Da'an is condemned for trying to save his race. It's a curious logic that keeps Zo'or in power, where Da'an taking the centre seat would lead to far more interesting stories. His threat at the end of the episode shows that maybe he will actually do something at last, but I wouldn't hang all my hopes on it.

In the end, the whole episode hangs on coincidences, stupidity and random events, and as such really doesn't hold together as a coherently-plotted story.
