Earth: Final Conflict: Epiphany

As the Taelons' core energy crisis deepens and the Taelons resolve to enter stasis, Liam experiences blackouts from which he may eventually be unable to recover.

Following on from Ha'gel's appearance in Dark Matter, Liam takes another step on his journey here as he becomes fully human. The problem is that it is killing him to do so, but he still has something very important to do. The story arc continues along rather nicely with this episode, although Liam's demise makes you wonder if the creators are doing away with yet another leading man, and arguably the best member of the cast they have.

The mystic aspect to the plot, where Liam gets Ha'gel's wisdom and blessing and decides what is best for the Taelons is rather over the top, but hopefully it'll lead somewhere more promising. The stasis aspect is interesting, as the Taelons give in to their fate. On the one hand it leaves the series without its main protagonists, but on the other it looks like things are moving to some kind of conclusion. With a fifth series confirmed, it remains to be seen if there's enough material left to carry on, but presumably big things are afoot. The power struggle between Da'an and Zo'or is good to see, but with Zo'or dying it seems there's little point in airing all their problems with each other. Liam finally ends up in the know about the pair's relationship and there's a surprising source of comfort for the aliens, but it all gets a bit strange, confused and not particularly satisfying as things head towards their conclusion. The woman questioning Liam's work is a case in point, not really serving much purpose from the outset, but then being revealed to be a human being used as some kind of Kimera pawn. I'm not clear exactly what's happening, but hopefully it will all be made clear in a couple of episodes' time.
