First Wave: Raven Nation

Cade goes in search of the Raven Nation, a group who may be able to help him win his fight against the Gua.

Almost the second part of last week's tale, Raven Nation sees Cade out to make new friends. Jordan makes a fuller appearance and we find out what makes her tick. Her story is a suitably unpleasant one, and elicits strong sympathy from the viewer. However, there's still an element of suspicion around her as Cade realizes he may have to watch carefully over what he's created.

There are a couple of concerns with this episode. The first is the fact that there's not much going on. It works as an introductory story, but the only plot is the Gua attempt to find and wipe out the Raven Nation, resulting in a swift and easily put-down attack. After Cade says he should assist due to knowing Cain's tactics, it seems he's not needed. Cain's plan seems to mainly consist of turning up and shooting at people until he's won.

My other problem lies in Cade's attitude. Considering how many Gua he's killed, for little reason other than they're around, I'm not sure why he frowns on killing one. If he's no use to anyone anymore, this seems the best option in case he escapes and reveals the location of the Raven Nation. Frankly, I'm right with Jordan and her attitude. Cade's never been very hung up on the 'kill and we're no better than them' concept before, and I'm surprised he is now.

Mabus, on the other hand, looks like a good enemy. Intelligent and scary, it'll be good to see him out and about causing trouble for Cade, although quite why he hasn't launched the second wave yet is open to debate. Rob LaBelle also gives good value at the start as Eddie gets a chance to play Federal Agent with mixed results. Good and bad overall, but certainly boding well for an interesting season.
