The heart of the state of Utah, the Central Business District, has always been the most vital sector in the city. The bulk of Salt Lake’s skyscrapers reside in this area centrally located in downtown. The Central Business District has two main streets, not coincidently one of those streets is named Main Street. The other is State Street, which is one of the longest continuous streets in the country. State Street ends at the northern tip of downtown Salt Lake City, where the Capitol Building resides. The CBD is home to very wide streets because when the city was founded Brigham Young wanted wide, boulevard like streets for pioneers could easily turn their oxen around. As a result, downtown is home to super blocks, where four large buildings can fit on one block, and still have room for some smaller buildings. The blocks branch out from what once was the center of the downtown area, Temple Square.
