By the late 80s the city of Salt Lake realized the gem that was SugarHouse. The city poured millions of dollars into the decaying neighborhood - liveing up the area. Once vacant store fronts turned into locally owned businesses. But this wasn't your father's SugarHouse. The once updscale shopping area, turned into a trendy, youth orientated center. Head and sex shops popped up. Trendy coffee shops became the rave. SugarHouse had done a complete 180. Instead of catering to adults, it now was catering to the youth of Salt Lake. Old Erving Junior High was torn down for an apartment complex. Two office towers were completed on the northern end of SugarHouse, right across from SugarHouse Park. The city proposed a residential tower for 2100 South and once the largest parking lot in SugarHouse, became a center of retail shops. A Barnes & Noble opened up on the corner of 2100 South and 1100 East - taking up a once vacant two story building. SugarHouse again began to thrive - just a new generation walks up and down its streets.
