Our maiden names are not the same
Our DNA don't match
Though we're not linked by blood or law
Our hearts are surely attached

I was turning six years old
When your mom had a baby girl
I'd have loved you then like I do now
You would have been my whole world

I would have done all the things
That good big sisters do
Like teach you how to smile and laugh
And that the sky's not always blue

I'm sure you would have fallen for
Every boyfriend I brought home
But since we were 15 and you were 9
They would have played along

Warning you of something bad
But letting you go ahead
And make the decision for yourself
Then wiping the tears you shed

We would have been the best of friends
For each other always there
Having secrets and a perfect trust
Is what we'd always share

We missed the years of growing close
And being sisters through and through
But the time we've had has taught me
I couldn't have a better "Sissy" than you

I don't know why He didn't create us
Sisters from the start
Now I know that God proclaimed us
Sisters of the heart
