One killed, four injured in Indonesia Maluku
islands JAKARTA - Unidentified assailants killed one person and injured four others in the latest religious violence in Indonesia’s Maluku islands, news reports said Thursday. The attack happened on Wednesday in Kusu-Kusu village, near the region’s main city of Ambon, the state Antara news agency reported. Villagers said a woman was fatally stabbed, while another three people were injured when a homemade bomb exploded, according to the report. Antara did not identify the religion of the victims. More than 5,000 people have been killed in Muslim-Christian clashes in the Maluku archipelago, 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles) northeast of Jakarta, since January 1999. The fighting had subsided in the past few months, but renewed attacks in the past week has left nine people dead.-AP
