Social actions in Purwokerto

 In March 2007 Arus Pelangi Banyumas held its first big event: All Java & Bali Miss Transgender Contest. Securing a permit from the local authorities needed some effort and was eventually obtained. Despite the lack of funds and rather haphazard preparation the event itself proved to be a big success. More than 20 contestants from all over Java and Bali flocked to the event, which was attended by more than 150 spectators. This all proves the vibrant creativity of the transgender community of Indonesia.

Another activity is to organize blood donation drives. The first time Arus Pelangi and the Red Cross of Banyumas worked together, they were able to gather 30 trainees of a local security training center "Total Security" to donate their blood. Besides, tapping blood Arus Pelangi Banyumas also provided extension on HIV/AIDS. Both the Red Cross and Arus Pelangi agreed to continue with this joint venture.

With these two activities alone Arus Pelangi Banyumas has achieved wide-spread social recognition in the region. Arus Pelangi is no longer associated with the stigma of sexual deviants.
