Bridget
Jonesˇ¦s Diary by Helen Fielding
Book
review 1...Part 2
The plot, simple as it may be, also works to endear readers to Bridget and her diary. Her struggle to fight, yet failure to overcome a nicotine addiction and other humanistic desires allows the readers to relate to Bridget and all her imperfections. The fact that Bridget tackles realistic problems to begin with takes the readers one step further and allows the readers to actually be Bridget. Although I am younger than her for about ten years, I still sympathized with her point of view about how the society treats singletons.
Best of all, Fielding delivers the mastery in an easy to read, easy to follow, neatly arranged package. Chapters go by months, days start with cigarette, calorie, and lottery ticket counts, and relatively short dialogue appears randomly scattered throughout.
Being a quick, easy novel relating to female nature and relative to female mind, Bridget Jonesˇ¦s Diary is the perfect read for any woman in need of nothing more than a good laugh. There are also lots of touching parts that make me want to cry for Bridget and at some parts I even want to cry for Mark.
In fact, it is definitely a good choice for those who love romantic comedies as there are dozens of slapstick inside the story. Any women who are not confident and assertive enough should never miss the chance to read Bridget Jonesˇ¦s Diary as it would give them self-help tips. I sincerely hope that the readers can relax and enjoy this wonderful book for the laugh it offers.
