Assignment no. 1: August 5, 2002

Question:
Problem 5.47: Suppose the probability of finding a four-leaf clover among clovers is 0.0002. If a naturalist randomly examined 10,000 clovers, What is the probability that she would find no four-leaf clovers? What is the probability that she would find three or more four-leaf clovers?

Given:
p = 0.0002 = probability of finding a four leaf clover
n = 10,000 clovers = sample size

Question 1:
What is the probability that she would find NO four-leaf clovers? P(X=0)

Solution / Formula:

Answer:

P (X=0) = 0.135308 or 13.53%

Question 2:
What is the probability that she would find three or more four- leaf clovers? P(X>=3)

Solution / Formula:

Answer:

P (X>=3) = 0.323325 or 32.33%
