The History Of The Tarot (As I Tell It ...)

This series is dedicated to those who want to learn how to read the cards...and to Oggy, who always publicaly thought I should write this into words for everyone to read anyway. *hug* *smile*

I have only taught a handful of folks how to read the cards during my time logged onto IRC. At first I was hesitant in doing so recalling that I had also taught myself how to crochet but couldn't seem to be able or have the patience to teach my own kids how to even when they expressed an interest in learning. . .so I thought I wouldn't have the knowledge or patience to pass what I had learned to others. But . . . as luck would have it, I came across a persistent nick who wanted me and only me to hold their hand virtually and try to show them the basics per se. As a result, I sort of formed a "lesson plan" that corresponds to my level of comfortable-ness passing this along and also meets the other person's as well in the role of student who is learning to open their intuitive side and to develop trust in themselves while doing so ... yet still incorporate the utilization of logic. This interesting balancing act helps leads to the "truths" more efficiently since one of the "gifts" of being human is the ability to shift between creativity and rationality. This aspect is described in little more detail within my articles on Online Readings.

After the person acquires their first deck, I have them hold it in their hand and read what I type in during the start of the lessons. For what they hold in their hand is something as mysterious and unexplainable as the history attached to them. Yes, some of it can be described as the cards revealing what a normal, everyday person goes through in the course of life or daily living - but the cards also sometimes show the reaction person has to such events or occurrences, and not every single person reacts the same or goes through events as if synchronized that "this will happen when the human person turns 16 and at 18 this event happens ...". Things happen when they happen although we may as an individual be able to relate somewhat to an event some one else is going through from our past experiences or those of people we know.

This will be somewhat wordy and all ... for one thing that is the way I talk anyway, and secondly that is how the history of the cards is also reminiscent to how the Main Street in my hometown intersected with side roads and alleys with these streets intersecting thru ... and sometimes winding around and reconnecting to yet another street or back to the main one. *chuckle* Odd way to look at it, but as I go along I think it make more sense to you why I described it like that.

I am *not* writing this series to teach you how to read, there are many web pages already set up for that purpose that I found well written and informative. I don't think I need to take up space on the cyber-realm with one more "Let me teach you to read the cards Page". Yet I like for those who are learning to read to know a bit about the history of the item they are seeking to learn to implement - wether just for themselves or for use on others. The two sides of the coin (or learning aspects) seem to go hand-in-hand in a nice odd sort of way. Seems that it helps make it easier to do one when you know about the other. *shrug* To make it easy for you, I will divide this into "chapters" for you to go to at your leisure. To have it make more sense in how I explain , do try to go from step one to the next step and not just jump to the one I have written that seems cool to read without reading the prior one.

Also, I feel I should say at this time that this is written in "capsulated" form ... I am *not* writing a book or such about this topic nor claiming to be some kind of "Tarot historian", just pointing out and sharing little bits of information I have come across in my reading material selections. I have read a multitude of books on the subject of Tarot, so these following pages just condense down 20+ books into a breezy format for you to read leisurely while on lunch break or whatever. *smile* At least, that was my goal I set forth to try to do when I first broached posting this. This series purpose on my homepage is to merely to whet your appetite to learn more about Tarot through the myriad of sources available ... and as always, have the salt shaker handy to hold a grain of the crystal chemical component while reading some Tarot related material. (Grain of salt reading method.) I have the word "history" in quotes for a reason and I already mentioned that this is an speculative area of thought for many - even when hit with "proof" of why the method or path they wanna believe can't possibly be historically proven.)
