Scripture describes the River of God in Ez 47 and Rev 22.
- The water represents God’s living word.
- The River of God is the continuing, unfolding revelation of God to humanity. The Holy Spirit is the source of the river but He is not the river. He is the one who reveals, not the revelation.
- When we are in the River of God we are swept along by the continuing revelation of God's nature (love).
· We are swept to the place where we can fulfill God’s purpose for us.
· We become clean (in holiness) so that God can use us to touch others.
- The River of God will go wherever God wants it to go. In the natural world, oxbow lakes are formed when a winding river changes its course. The river no longer flows through the section that has become a lake. Some in Christendom are in oxbow
lakes, no longer receiving fresh revelation from God.
- When we speak pure words of life as inspired by the Holy Spirit, they are added to the River of God increasing the volume of flow.
- The River of God is timeless. God continues to reveal Himself more clearly to humanity generation after generation.
- The River of God is teeming with abundant life.
- God’s people throw themselves into His river.
· They cast off their preconceptions of God and let Him reveal His true nature.
· While they may enjoy their traditions, they are not bound by them.
· They consistently seek a deeper relationship with God where God builds upon scriptural truth and continually reveals Himself in new and wonderful ways.
- God's people throw themselves into His river by allowing God to purify their hearts. Matt. 5:8 states: "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." We are swept into the revelation of God when our hearts are pure,
when they contain nothing but love: all bitterness, resentment, fear, anxiety, rejection, and anger must be removed.
