"Attendance is a habit.
Good attendance is a good habit."

Clubs with high attendance averages usually recognize that good attendance is a well developed habit.
When a member misses one or two meetings, a telephone call or a note from the Membership Vice President
usually helps the member to return--reinforcing and continuing the attendance habit.

Attendance Tips

1. Provide recognition for good attendance on a monthly basis (with quarterly, semi-annual winners, etc.).

2. Work as a team to improve your club's attendance percentage. Display performance at meetings.

3. Call members during the week. The process of organizing a meeting provides stimulation to attend.

4. Increase functionary roles to provide participating responsibilities to all members.

5. Provide a written program or newsletter reviewing the forth coming meeting with the schedule of participating members.

6. Ask members to be present.

Thoughts on Attendance:
  • Members will come when they expect to benefit by their attendance.
  • Members will come when they want to be a part of what happens that day.
  • Members will come when they are leading a club activity (in or outside the club).
  • Members will come when they expect the presence of a guest they've invited.
  • Members will come when they have a personal investment of ideas and energy in the success of the meeting.
  • Members will come when they are asked to contribute or bring something which enhances the meeting.

Toastmasters International suggests that clubs seek to maintain an attendance-to-member ratio of 75%. How is your club doing?
