The population of Viet Nam has an estimated population of 69 million.
The population density of
Viet Nam is about 500 people per square mile. Eighty five percent of the
peoples are Vietnamese
or also known as Annamese. Chinese and Khmer make up about five percent of
the population.
The rest of the population is made up of, for the most part, hill tribes
referred to as savages. The
peoples of Viet Nam harvest rice as their main crop and opium poppy as their
main drug export.
The Vietnamese are actively rotating their crops. Viet Nam has two and a
half million acres of
cultivated land. They also grow sweet potatoes, beans, corn and other vegetables.
Fish are raised
in flooded paddy fields. In the north the farmers lift the water from the
canals and move it to the
crop if they have not already dug irrigation ditches. The crops are fertilized
with human and animal
feces in the north. In the south the farmers farm the land less intensively
and have little controlled
irrigation. They rarely make use of fertilizers. The Lowlands in the south
are usually flooded in the
spring and summer. The north has a greater yield of crops than the South.
Vietnamese families
usually consist of the Grandparents, the parents and the children all living
under one roof. Most
Vietnamese people are farmers. |
