Creating Sacred Space In Living Space

When you talk to Wiccans, you may often hear them say, "Wicca isn't something you do... its how you live." To many of us, the Craft is a way of life.  We measure our actions with the Wiccan Rede and the threefold law. Our  schedules are planned around Esbats and Sabbats. It seems that Wicca slips into every aspect of our lives, including our homes.

There are a number of simple things that you can do to make your home more magickal:

Hang a broom above your door: A broom suspended horizontally across a doorway traditionally protects the home against harm. In our home, we have a broom permanently hung above our doorway. Two small bells hang from the handle. When we leave the home, we give the bells a small jingle and say, "Bless and protect, dear broom." And when we return we do the same, saying, "Thank  you,  dear broom." Our home is safe, our minds peaceful while we're away, and  it adds a little bit of magick to our home.

Bring nature indoors: In Autumn, we decorate our bookshelves with brightly colored fallen leaves. Circles of  rocks occupy nooks and crannies, long sticks and staves fill corners of the  house. Everywhere we look, there is a little bit of nature, reminding us of the sacredness of all things.

Use magickal scents: Find scents that remind  you of rituals or special times. Each of us has memories associated with the smell of baking bread. I'm particullarly found of the smell of honey, as it  reminds me of long hours spent making dipped beeswax candles in the winter. Incense is easy to make, and the herbs that compose it are generally inexpensive.
