Following the Rule of Three
The rule of three, or the idea that whatever you give out you get back times three is basically a restatement of the idea of karma. What rules do you believe? Do you let these influence the things you would or would not do?
I have never paid much attention to the rule of three. I have my own acid test. Would I want someone to do that to me? If I recieved that from someone as a result of magick, would I really want it or feel comfortable accepting it?
For example, I refuse at this point in time to do love spells. I say at this point in time, because that may change some day. I don't think I could be objective in doing them. I may ask the Goddess for help and guidance, but do not want to do an actual "spell". I don't think i could do one without violating my own ideals of ethics.
I have one friend who believes there is a times 10 result if friends or family are invloved.
Even Christianity has a version of this karmic code. "Do unto others as you would have done unto you." How many of us had this drilled into our heads as children.
Karma notwithstanding, it is always a good idea to have some ruler by which to measure your actions. it also helps to reinforce the idea of "harm none".
