Weight Loss Magick

None of the herbals are for ingestion. They are for sympathetic magic only. I've put this together from a variety of sources, and you can write your own individual rituals using these elements.

I. GEMSTONES:

A.  BERYL is good for physical energy. (Most weight-loss plansusually include an exercise plan, so include beryl in ritual to increase your physical energy during exercise.) (Emeralds and aquamarines are
varieties of beryl)
B.  RUBY symbolizes burning away something (I visualize this as burning away fat.)
II. EDIBLE FOODS:
A.  PICKLES symbolize temperance (good for over-eaters or binge-eaters)
B.  CABBAGE also symbolizes temperance. (Side note: I have aspecial distaste for cabbage, so every morning I eat a tiny pinch and tell myself that if I can eat cabbage, I can do anything. Or If I can eat cabbage I can surely exercise tonight. Try this with any foodthat you just can't stand.)
C.  BROCCOLI is for physical improvements. (lowered cholesterol, fat, weight, etc. Plus it's good for you.)
D.  CHIVES are good for breaking bad habits.
E.  JUICE symbolizes rejuvenation, vitality, and health.
F.  POPCORN has been known throughout the ages as a foodcapable of lifting burdens. Eat unbuttered, air-popped popcorn and you'll be relieved of the burden of feeling bad about snacking. ;)
G.  SOUP symbolizes steady change. Keep your goal to be losing only one or two pounds a week, and don't weigh yourself everyday.Limit it to once every week or two. Homemade vegetable soup can be charged with extra weight-loss magic, and it's a great diet food.
H.  GRAPEFRUIT was thought in Victorian times to promoteweight loss. However, the grapefruit diet doesn't work. But the fruit itself is wonderfully solid and bright, and when I think of it I think about weight-lifting and muscle toning. Peel and eat grapefruit likean orange for a mid-morning snack. Plus it has a great solar quality to it. Leave one out on the counter to encourage healthy eating.
I.  CELERY is another weight-loss food with many references, but no specific reason as to why it's affiliated with weight-loss. Drop yellow or red food coloring in  glass of water and let a few celerysticks soak
overnight. Celery is more fun to eat when it's purple. Or trypeeling celery when you crave something to do with your hands. Peel off the strings until the urge passes. This is good for smokers, too.
III. HERBS
A.  BAY LEAF represents change. (Don't be tempted to eatthese!) Put bay leaves and celery seeds together for "changing weight"magic.
B.  CELERY SEED is for weight-loss. That's all I could find onit. I equate this with celery, although I have seen celery seed as one of the ingredients in a weight-loss tea.
C.  VIOLET is for grace. (I threw this one in because I am(was) a dancer, and I always used to tell myself that if I were just five pounds lighter, I'd be more graceful.)
D.  FENNEL is also for weight loss. That's all I could find.
E.  MISTLETOE is symbolic of overcoming difficulties.
IV.  SYMBOLS
A.  KNOTS may be used to bind the appetite.
B.  A SPIRAL symbolizes the slow and steady diminishing weight.
V.  KITCHEN TOOLS (We're often in the kitchen when we think about food. So visualizing the weight-loss energies of some kitchen tools can help fight the "Let'sbake a cake for dinner" syndrome.)
A.  The STEAMER is a symbol of slow processes, and weight-loss is a slow process. Steamed food is less fattening than fried food, too.
B.  The FUNNEL is a symbol of flow, of unhindered order, and of coaxing energy along. Weight-loss is a long process, and I also like to think of the weight slowing moving out of the funnel.
C.  A ROLLING PIN is a symbol of discipline, meditation, andcontrol. Equated with "will power."
Those are the items I have found which have weight-loss correspondences. This is an on-going quest, so if you find more let me know, and hopefully I will be able to add to this as I continue. These items can be incorporated into candles, spell bags, affirmations, brain "programs" or any other type of magical activity.

*  One spell in particular that I came up with is a derivative of the old "Abracadbara" spell. Take a long phrase, something like:"the inches around my hips, belly, and thighs" and write it backwards, nospaces, on
a triangular piece of paper. Rewrite the phrase, only leave offthe first letter, underneath. Do the same until there is just oneletter left. Carry the paper with you, or keep it somewhere where you will see it several times a day and be reminded of your goal. Incorporate this as part of your personalized weight-loss ritual.
Like so:

*  Something that I've wanted to try, but haven't been able to,is finding a fruit or vegetable that shrinks as it drys (maybe a pimento) to symbolize gradual weight loss. Or, put a small stick pin in it for each time I spend an hour exercising. After a few hours, the positive feedback of seeing so many pins makes me want to exercise more. But I can't find a fruit/veggie that fits the bill, and the pincushion I'm
using isn't really satisfactory. Does anybody know of something that fits the bill?Hope this is of some interest. Just remember, don't get carried away.Lose weight for health reasons, but don't lose your mental health in the process. And once you've lost the weight, don't forget to keep some symbols around for "maintenance" purposes. You don't want to lose weight just to gain it right back.

Just for the record, here are three things you can ingest to aid in weight loss:

Celery - It takes more calories to consume this than itcontains, and it is a natural diruatic. Scott Cunningham suggests that you inscrbe two arrows pointing at the center twoards each other with the word thinner between them on a stalk of celery to gain magical aid in weight loss. Should look like this
    -----> thinner<-------

Chickweed - Use as a tea, or fresh in salads. A very healthy and powerful diuretic !

Dandelion greens - Diuretic, high in vitamin A , and a terrific spring liver tonic
