Salem's History Founded:September 1889
The dates of the congregation--1889-1989--are the founding and centennial years of Salem.

First pastor: Rev. Jacob Conrad (served one year when he was called to eternal rest)
November 1889: purchased northeast corner lot at E. Thomas and N. Cramer for $2500.00. Louis Wilk contracted to build church building.
Easter 1890: Church building dedicated. First funeral conducted in this building was that of Rev. Conrad who died in the summer.
October 1890: Rev. Adolph Baebenroth becomes Salem's second pastor.
May 1891: Seminary student John Schultz begins summer vacation school. This school continued until 1896.
December 1895: Rev. Baebenroth accepts call to serve St. Peter's in Milwaukee
February 1896: Rev. Herman Brandt accepts call to be Salem's third pastor. Rev. Brandt would serve four years. New organ dedicated and paid for.
1900: Rev. Otto Hagedorn installed as Salem's fourth pastor.
January 1911: Plans made for the construction of a new church building.
February 1912: Present church building dedicated. Old church moved to the north of the new building and remodeled for Sunday school and fellowship hall. The parsonage stands today where this structure once stood.
September 1914: Salem celebrates its 25th anniversary. 100 families and 250 communicant members make up Salem. There were 66 voting members.
October 1919: (During World war I.) German and English may be used in congregational business meetings; however, the minutes are to be kept in German.
June 1920: Twice-a-month English services begin.
July 1921: Minutes of meetings now kept in English.
September 12, 1999: Salem celebrates 110 years of God's grace.
