Promise Keepers

I'm going to guess you've heard of the Promise Keepers. Otherwise you wouldn't be visiting this page.

For those of you who haven't heard much, they're the group that some claim are giving men a necessary sense of responsibility to their families, crossing racial barriers, and generally causing spiritual growth.

Others claim that they encourage the oppression of women, recruit minorities to join the political/religious right, and generally promote patriarchy.

In case you're curious, I see some truth in each view, planting my feet firmly on both sides of the fence.

In researching this group I've gone to two conferences, one of which was in Chicago. The other was the Washington D.C. "Stand in the Gap" gathering that recieved national attention in 1997. I've put a few pictures up on this site--with commentary.
