a slice of the moon

S.C.Jones

If I could cut off a slice of the moon
and if I could warm your heart
in the gentle rays of the sun,

If I could bathe your beauty
in the swells of the Mediterranean
and fan your golden curls
with a cooling Northern breeze,

I would do them all - and more.
I would spend an eternity and forever
to do this and I would live knowing
that I had served my final calling.

But I can not do any of these things.
I can't even hold your hand,
gaze into your eyes, or whisper
'I love you'.

If a thousand words were in one picture
I would still not have the capacity
to show you my love;
I would still not measure up
to what I see all around me now.

If ten pictures were better than one,
then a million better still,
I would take pictures
from here to my dying day,
and I would never be done.

My camera would cry out,
and my computer would fall
by the wayside, never to keep up.

I would exhaust my every resource
and I would show the world
in all its' glory,

Yet they would pale
in the sight of you.
They would fade away,
and I would be yearning still more.

In the light of you no picture,
no earthly scene,
would ever come close.
Your very presence on earth
has given it new meaning.

Your very passing by
has brought all flowers to bloom,
all birds to roost,
all fish to shallow water.

Your presence has warmed the ocean
and cooled the night.
You have brought tears
and you have brought unimaginable joy;
every emotion laid bare.

Time has stopped.
The sun has never shone more.
The colors in the trees never more true.

If I should go a lifetime
and never know another,
I would still be
the happiest soul in existence,
the most blessed of all creation.

If I were to gaze into the recesses of you
I would live eternal,
and I would 'become'
all that I have now said.

I would be your day,
and I would be your night.
I would be with you always,
and I would be with you
when you and I are gone.

No day, no lifetime,
would ever know
a greater love than mine;
No world a greater passion.

To have known you
for that briefest of times,
is to have known you forever.
