Mrs. J. A. Houston. A survey of the world's progress since the completion in 1910 of the Encyclopaedia Britannica's Eleventh Edition A register and review of current events and additions to knowledge in politics, economics, engineering, industry, sport, law, science, art, literature, and other forms of human activity, national and international, up to the end of 1912. Info from the year book: Oregon population in 1910, 672,765 (62.7 percent more than in 1900) A few of the worlds navies: British Empire, had 15 Battleships and Dreadnoughts, plus 451 other ships. U.S.A., had only 8 Battleships and Dreadnoughts, plus 124 other ships. German Empire, had 10 Battleships and Dreadnoughts, plus 215 other ships. Greek Art in 1913: At Athens there are not many new statues; but the piecing together of the abundant fragments of the early monuments of the city which have been unearthed in the diggings of the latter part of the last century has occupied the full attention of distinguished German savants. There is mention of Mr. Guy Dickins' recent Catalogue of the Sculpture of the Acropolis Museum. This book has helped me more with my research into the early 1900's than any other. |
