Beissel had a strong, individualistic personality, which was predominant
at Ephrata. Probably the most outstanding disagreement that occurred
was with the Rosicrucian successor to Kelpius. Due to the mishandling
of a Rosicrucian couple at Ephrata, the Eckerlings, Conrad Mathaii broke
relations with Beissel. Some time later, they had an additional meeting—and
much was made of it, because they exchanged the Kiss of Peace— symbolic
of a charitable attitude.
