The Expulsion of the Eatsern Native Americans Nations (1830-1835)

The Cherokee, Seminole, Chickasaw, and Choctaw Nations.

Status of the Native American Nations

Until the 1830s, the US had treated the native nations as sovereign entities and the treaties as international treaties.

Starting in the 1830s, the Native American Nations were treated as "Internal Natives" or "domestic dependent states," and treaties as internal acts.

Removal Act of 1830

90,000 members of numerous tribes were relocated.

Black Hills Treaty

In 1833 the Cherokee were forced westward. Gold had been discovered on Cherokee land. Despite their western culture and religion. They carried Western culture and religion with them.

In a settlement, $104 million has been offered to the Cherokee Nation (60,000 people).
