The Four Gospels Chaplet

Back to Biblical Chaplets

This chaplet is based on Bruce Duncan's identification of the four gospels with the four Jungian personality aspects (I don't think it originates with him, but that is where I read it).

The symbols of the four evangelists (man, lion, ox and eagle) are traditional, and are explained by Irenaeus as symbolising Christ's incarnation, royalty, sacrifice and grace, respectively. I also added the opposite aspect, the shadow aspect as it were, of each of these, and selected the events from the gospels to accord with the theme. The Introit bead I assigned to the Feeding of the 5000, which all four gospels mention, with the idea being that the associated prayer would ask Christ to feed us spiritually as we meditate on the chaplet.
