An excellent summary on "It's A Wonderful Life" by Paul (3rd):

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE

December 29, 1999

There are so many people from Bedford Falls praying for George Bailey that Angels listen. The head angel calls George’s Guardian Angel Clarence (Angel Second Class) to help George. If Clarence helps George, Clarence will finally get his wings. Clarence first finds out everything George has done in his life. He must learn everything so he can convince George that he is very important.

Clarence sees that George saved his baby brother Harry’s life, he stopped the pharmacist from giving out poisonous pills to a little girl, gets married to Mary and has four great kids, helps everyone in town by giving them loans to buy houses, helps Violet stay away from bad things, he suggested to Sam Wainwright that he open his factory in Bedford Falls (makes Sam very rich and gives jobs to people), save people from losing all their money, helps people start business by lending them money, supports his mother even after married, helps as volunteer during the war and many other things.

On Christmas Eve, his uncle by mistake gave the $8,000 to Mr. Potter in a newspaper. George gets so mad and sad he screams at everyone, he begs Mr. Potter to help but Mr. Potter calls the police. George feels so bad. He thinks if he died at least Mary and the family would receive the insurance money and not be ashamed of him. He blames himself for everything. He goes to the bridge to jump off.

When George is going to jump off the bridge to kill himself, the angel Clarence jumps in first so George can save him. Then he changes everything as if George did not ever exist. George finds out the everything is sadder, darker, bars everywhere, now the town is Pottersville so Mr. Potter owns everything, Sam built his factory somewhere else so there were no jobs except the bars, pawn shops, girlie places, Violet was a bad girl, Mary never found love, his children did not exist, his mother was an unhappy hard working woman, the Martini’s did not own the business he helped them get money for, Harry died when he was young so all the soldiers he saved died in the war, the pharmacist was a drunken homeless person that went to prison for 20 years for killing the little girl, and other horrible things happened because George did not exist.

George learned he was important and how bad things happened without him. Clarence changed everything back, George’s wife Mary told everyone the lost money problem, and everyone gave George money to save the business. George learned he had many many friends.

He learned he was important to everyone. No matter how bad things seemed, life was important and he was worthwhile to his friends. He was very rich because he had many friends.

A 5 paragraph Essay on "IWL" from the class prompt by Barbara (2nd):

What If I Had Never Been Born?

In the story, "It’s a Wonderful Life", George Bailey does in fact have the opportunity to see how life would be like if he had never existed. Now it’s a known fact that important events and dates would never have occurred if a specific person that played a huge role in the making of the event, had never been born. A simple twist of fate could easily change the way things turn out, even if they are not meant to be. Personally, in my opinion, I believe that a twist of fate changes everything. So in my case, if I had never been born, that twist of fate would play a huge role in life.

If I had never been born, I personally think that the people, who surround my life, would be in a way different. For example, most of my friends would probably have some sort of different aspects about themselves. I would think that the reason was because of something that I was supposed to give or show them with my friendship. So if I had never been born, my friends would probably have been these completely different people.

The other people that surround my life are my family. I believe that so many events would have not occurred if I had not been born. For example, if I were not born, I would have never bumped into my future brother-n-law at a skating rink birthday party. Where my stepsister met her future husband. Or I would have never pulled my sister back into the sidewalk, when a car almost hit her, if I had never been born. So it’s a bit clear that a joyous occasion would have never happened, and a dreadful event would have happened if I had not existed.

I think the world would be affected if I had never been born in the sense that the world could miss out on a person that could have been something huge in the world out there. It would only have been a matter of time. No one knows if I could have been the first lady president! Maybe a famous actress, or graceful dancer. People would never know if I were never born.

In conclusion, if a person was meant to be born, but didn’t because it was a way to show how life would be without them, it wouldn’t have been fair. In my case, if I had never been born, so many things would be different. Lives would be different, and the people I care about would be missing out on my friendship. The world would also be missing out on a good kid for the future.

Here's another excellent & touching essay on the same prompt by Darlene (2nd):

This essay is about what life would be like if I were never born. George Bailey from the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" got to see what the world would have been like if he was never born. This movie inspired me to think about what the lives of people in my life would be like if I was never born. My mother would have only given birth to my brother, Kevin. My family would not have gone through the pain and suffering of my stroke and surgeries on the other hand, my family would never have known who I was or who I am today.

If I was never born my mother would have only had a son she would have been unhappy because I know that she always wanted a boy and a girl. My brother would be lonely because we fight all the time and I know he loves me. My father would be lost because I am the reason that he works so hard, he says all the time that I keep him balanced.

The second point that I want to make is that if I was never born my family would not have gone through the pain and suffering of my stroke and surgeries. When I was born. I was a premature child and had a stroke. My family was sad because I had nine surgeries. I know that any other family would have probably fallen apart, but my family became stronger. Everyday I go through difficulties in my life and I know that they will suffer along with me.

On the other hand, if I were never born they would not have not known the person that I became today. I have good friends. I am doing good in school. I know my cousin, Jillian, would be lost if I never existed. I feel confused sometimes like all teenagers that I know. I know my parents love me and that my brother would be lonely without me.

In conclusion, if I was never born my mother would be sad without her little girl. They wouldn't have suffered so much with my illness, but they would not be as strong as today. They known the person that I am today, I think that because I was born their lives are richer and happier.

Here's an essay written on essay writing, by Cindy (2nd):

Everyone is aware of important it is to know how to write an essay, especially in things like tests and classroom exercises. When writing essays, there are different steps you must remember and hints to use when wanting to make one perfect.

One thing you should try to remember when writing essays is how to use transitions. Transitions are words or phrases that link ideas in paragraphs to one another. For instance, you may use "for example," "next," "finally," and "nevertheless." These can be used to link paragraphs or ideas, and should only be used when needed.

Another hint or idea that can be used when writing essays is using the commonly known "FIRES." Using Facts, Incidents, Reasons, Examples, and Statistics (FIRES) can greatly enhance the quality of your essay. Facts help because they show true examples from everyday life. Incidents are things that happened, which are much like Examples. Reasons are why something happens, and Statistics are numerical facts.

Organization is also very important when writing a good essay. An organized essay has a beginning, middle, and end, transitions, and concluding sentences or paragraphs. It also has a focus, and stays on topic. You must make sure not add any extra information, or statistics that are not needed. Also, using planning sheets before writing your essay can help you write down your ideas and exclude those that are not necessary. You should be able to know what the essay is about with only the first paragraph, and should also be able to stay on topic throughout the essay.

Finally, using FIRES, transitions, and having organized paragraphs will help you to make a good essay. Essays are very important, and they can be very easy to do, if you know the right steps to use and how to use them. So, in conclusion, essays are not hard once you know the right steps.

Here's Cindy's (2nd) project for the "Be Your Own Shakespeare" assignment:

Laertes VS. Hamlet

(as told by Ophelia)

I’m standing here, only a few feet away from thy dear brother, Laertes. Here, on thou night, I am facing a horrid sight, as my on/off love and my dear brother, begin to fight. As I approach closer upon thy scene, a vision appears before me. What is this I see, on thy tip of dear brothers’ sword? Oh no!, thy dear brother is not aware of his dirty sword, that may cause him to discontinue thy match. I must try and help as soon as possible!

Is what I see true? Yes! The match has ended, or has it? Both thy swords are on the floor, may this be the end? Has it ended in a drawl? No!, just an interlude. Maybe now is the perfect time to help out my dear brother Laertes! Yes! That is just what I shall do. As I rush upon thy scene, just a few feet away from thou brother and his sword, I overhear him talking to himself. "The plan has not worked! The poison is not in Hamlet yet… I must find a way to kill him! I must! I must!" he says to himself. Is that what this red smudge is? I say to thy self, be that what is on thy brothers’ sword? No! It could not be! How dare he do such a thing?

Making sure that my love will not die, I quickly make a decision. Grabbing a leaf from the floor, I rub it on thy brothers’ sword, making sure to take off all this so-called "poison". Yes! Just in time! Now the two men are back against each other, but in ease, with not a fraud! I still cannot believe someone can do such a thing. Maybe one day I will understand. But until then, I sit here, in shock, as I try and witness this battle, without getting such a knot in my stomach.

This passage is written to describe how the "fight scene" between Laertes and Hamlet may have been different if Ophelia was still alive at the time. If Ophelia was still alive, I hypothesize that she might have not known what this poison on the tip of Laertes’ sword was. To explain what may have happened, I show how this scene would have looked like through Ophelia’s eyes, and how she may have responded to such a thing. Not knowing this is true, I suspect that Ophelia may have tried to help Hamlet, without knowing the true reason why the poison was there.
