"Benefactors"

Kingdom benefactors are always widow,
or children with a handful of fish,
or ravens with cheese for a sad man’s heart,
or strawfilled mangers outside desert towns.

the widow’s sacrifice sustains the prophet
the child’s smile fills the waiting crowds’ hunger
blackbird’s obedience renews the spent
and the manger cradles eternity
