Dark wood

With hammer and nail
He was a carpenter's son.
Knowing too well the dark, hard wood
of the day that will surely come.

As small hands touched the dark, hard wood
What thoughts were going through His mind?
"Yes, dark wood, it's not long now
when the nails and the sin will bind.

Years later as He sat in a boat
He thought of the wood that made them float
"Yes, dark wood, it's not long now
before, under you, I will bow".

Bleeding and tired He felt the hard wood
pulling Him down when He fell.
"Yes, dark wood, it's not long now
before you and I will be one.

As the nails went through open hands
He became one with dark wood.
"Thank you, dark wood," whispered the Son,
"For letting My Father's will be done.
