welcome home, y'all...
("So let your brothers be called, 'My People' and your sisters be called
'Shown Mercy'" Hosea 2:1)
"Take Off Your Shoes"
Take off your shoes when you come in my house,
sit on the floor, put your head on the hearth and
grab the satin quilt from off the cherrywood chest and
laugh when you want
there's left-hand-on-yellow twister with
stoke the fire with november breath or
take off your shoes when you come into my house
"oh, you only came to deliver the milk?"
take off your shoes when...
anybody wanna come over?

open the fridge, ignore all the aluminum foil finery and
take what you want,
don't ask,
take what you want
snooze the afternoon away on the bricks and carpet
pillows and smoke
flatter rain on window panes
wrap it round your legs, round your baby boy's legs,
or roll up amy'n'mikey like mummys
on the rarely waxed floor
cry when you can
hug and ask for hugs
chatter or listen
squeals from toddlers and teens too shy
to flirt
there's checkers for the half awake
and chess for the untwisted
let the embers fade to silent midnight
they'll be there in the morning
well, then...
