Staff Spotlight on Mrs. Ankney

Mrs. Ankney has been teaching at Monte Vista since 1991. She really enjoys the terrific staff, the wonderful helping and involve parents and the great students! Befor coming to MV, she taught 5th grade for 2 years at Horace Mann School in Glendale. Mrs. Ankney worked as a costumer, she manufactured, rented and sold costumes for theater productions and business and personal use. She ran her own business in Anchorage, Alaska from 1975 to 1982. She decided to become a teacher because she loves reading, math and children..quite a combo!

Mrs. Ankney received her undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts from CSUN in 1988. She received her teaching credential from CSUN in 1989. A funny memory from her years of teaching is the time when her students were studing the revolutionary war, Mrs. Ankney pretended the students would no longer get to go out to recess without paying her for that privilege. Students revolted and wrote the Room 6 Constitution.

Mrs. Ankney's favorite children's books are the Harry Potter series and Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. She loves Mystery stories and her favorite adult authors are Dean Koontz and Tami Hoag. Some more favorites are...Tri tips the way her dad cooks them, the sound tract music to Gladiators and Lord of the Rings, and Hawaii where she spent her honeymoon.

Homework TIP:Write down everything you need to do before you leave school and do homework as soon as possible so the information is still fresh.
