Miss Finn joins us at Monte Vista for the 1998-99 school year after 14 years in the Glendale Unified School District. She is excited to be teaching our 4th - 6th grade Special Education Class at Monte Vista because the campus is beautiful, staff's great and her class is wonderful. Before joining us at Monte Vista, Miss Finn taught grades 1 - 6 at Fremont Elementary School in Glendale, and Bethany Christian School in Arcadia. Before becoming a teacher, she worked as a Glendale Parks Supervisor. She also works as a photographer. But she ultimately decided to become a teacher because of her love for helping kids to learn and grow and discover the best in themselves. She enjoys helping students to overcome their challenges. To pursue this dream, she obtained her undergraduate degree in Child Development from Whittier College in Whittier, her masters in Elementary Education, and her Learning Handicapped Specialist Credential from California State University at Los Angeles. Miss Finn feels blessed to have had such wonderful classes and met some really great people. Growing up, Miss Finn's favorite teacher was Miss Irwin, who taught the subject French, but more importantly, taught Miss Finn to believe in herself.
Miss Finn is close to family and feels especially lucky to have a mother who encourages her in all she does, and with a special sense of humor. Traveling with her parents around the United States is a favorite childhood memory for Miss Finn. The most interesting place she has ever traveled to is New Mexico where she treasures the clouds, ruins, land, artwork and people. She is always on the look out for
opportunities to hike and take photographs in New Mexico, Montana and Wyoming, but if she could go anywhere in the world, she'd visit Australia and New Zealand to hike all over and scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef.
Miss Finn is always busy with her many interests and talents. She makes stained glass, writes songs and poetry, makes jewelry, takes photographs and plays with graphics on her new computer. She designs CD covers and publicity and promotion for the music industry. She has become interested in song writing because her good friend is a musician / singer and has encouraged her to write poetry to be set to music. Miss Finn dreams that one day she will write a hit song and have more of her photographs published.
Miss Finn has a ton of animals including a three foot iguana named Lazarus, a cockateil named JT, a love bird named Sneakers, 12 parakeets, a chinchilla named Murphy, and a classroom filled with various frogs, toads and lizards. JT reportedly dances when she sings and the other birds like to play peek-a-boo.
Miss Finn is glad to be at Monte Vista in her beautiful new room, teaching with our top-notch faculty.
Miss Finn's Homework Tip: Do your homework when you get home and then you sill have time to play and relax. Always do all your homework and do it in a quiet comfortable place while you are still alert and awake.
If trees could speak,
would we listen…
What would we learn if we could hear?
In ageless voices
they would tell us
Of mother earth and of her tears…
They've seen the passing
of the decades…
Of humans' follies, toils and fears…
They know the secrets of the sages,
They know that value disappears…
We'd learn the wonder
of the ages…
And find that WE are temporary here…
They would whisper
in the breezes…
Stories, timeless in design…
Trees would paint a colored picture
of all the lives they've seen pass by…
Trees could tell us many stories
of all they've seen
while we destroy…
Never judging or condemning…
while watching over us silently…
If trees could speak
would we listen…
would we not hear and change our minds…
would we not treat them as our brothers…
who warn us of the earths' demise…
If we do not learn to be wise…
For if there are no more trees,
we'll have no room to breathe…
no room to breathe…
no room to breather…
Listen to the trees…
Listen to the trees…
Listen to the trees…
